What is the Instructor Development Course?
The SDI Instructor Development Course, or IDC, is the training required to become a fully certified Open Water Scuba Diving Instructor. An OWSDI is a qualified Scuba Diving Instructor who may conduct all of the core recreational diving courses from Discover Scuba Diving and Open Water Diver, all the way to Rescue Diver and Divemaster Training. As a professional diving instructor you are at the forefront of creating and supporting new and experienced scuba divers.
How long is the Instructor Development Course?
The OWSDI IDC will take place over 8 days with the Instructor Examination (IEC) taking place over 2 days at the end for a total of 10 days. Our Course Directors and Instructor Trainers, Drew Beattie & Craig Werger , will mentor and teach you everything you need to know to become a successful scuba diving instructor. You will be required to attend multiple classroom sessions, pool training sessions, and ocean dives before the end of the course. Your IDC will also include a Drysuit Specialty Instructor rating and a Computer Nitrox Diver Specialty Instructor rating.

Commitment to Safety and Enjoyment
At Diving Sports we believe in making sure all our students receive the highest quality instruction and customer service. We are in the business of training, mentoring, and supporting students to become safe, skillful and confident divers. We begin by scheduling our courses with the number of classes it typically takes most students to master the knowledge and skills, then adapt and tailor our schedule to fit our individual student’s needs. Our instructors are open and honest about your progress during each part of the course. Students may need to schedule additional pool or ocean training dives prior to certification. This ensures our students complete their courses with all the skills and knowledge they need to be safe and enjoy their future dives and courses. When you take a course with Diving Sports, you are welcomed into a passionate and inclusive community of divers eager to support your diving journey well beyond the duration of your class.
